Family View
- The Family View is where you see the family group record of the highlighted individual.
- The field in the upper left-hand corner is called the primary position. The Family View will show you the spouse, parents, and children of the person in the primary position.
- You put the spouse in the primary position by clicking on the double-sided arrow in between the primary position and the spouse.
- You can put one of the children in the primary position by clicking on the arrow to the left of the child's name.
- You can put one of the parents in the primary position by clicking on the arrow to the right of the parent's field.
- Any arrow that is filled in black means the line continues to the next generation (or, in the cases of the children, it means the child has a spouse and/or a child).
- An arrow that is just an outline means that there is not another generation beyond the current one.
- A field that has a black triangle in the upper right-hand corner indicates a note or source for that individual.
- A field that has a black square in the upper right-hand corner indicates that a multimedia photo, video clip or sound clip is attached to that individual.
- To edit an individual from the Family View, go to Edit > Individual. This will open the Edit Individual field for the highlighted individual.
- To edit a marriage from the Family View, go to Edit > Marriage. This will open the Edit Marriage field for the highlighted individual.
- To add a new individual, go to Add > ___. Select the relationship of the new individual to the highlighted individual. You can add a spouse, a child, a mother, a father, or another set of parents. This will open a new, blank Edit Individual field.
